Peridot Beyond is Niantic’s first experience built specifically for the world’s first outdoor-friendly augmented reality glasses. Snap and Niantic, resolutely committed to getting users outdoors and fostering connections in the real world, have teamed up to create an experience where digital companions fit into everyday life. Through a combination of Niantic’s location-based AR expertise and Snap’s advanced hardware, Peridot Beyond was born.

Peridot Beyond reimagines the beloved mobile AR Peridot pet game as an immersive, on-the-go, heads-up experience that brings your Dot companion out into the real world with you in all-new ways. This was achieved through rapid prototyping, defining new models of user interaction, and exploring the possibilities of spatial game design. In the experience, users can embark on outdoor adventures with their Dots–petting them up close, exploring with them to discover food, and playing catch.

In a later update following the original launch, their collaborative efforts have transformed Peridot Beyond into a multiplayer and cross platform experience, allowing friends and Dots to explore the outside world together and share progress between the Peridot Beyond experience and Peridot mobile game.

With this experience, Niantic is one step closer to its vision for augmented reality: to enable hands-free and heads-up exploration, exercise, and the ability to make connections with people and communities.
