Coming soon: Game balancing and tuning changes!

Hi Keepers,

All new game tuning changes are coming to Peridot in early March (specific date is to be determined)!

It’s been nearly a year since Peridot launched, and in that time your feedback has been crucial to the changes we’ve made to the game. Thanks to you, the Peridot team has brought more depth of gameplay to this whimsical world, from introducing Socialization and Dot Levels, to simplifying how hatching works, to introducing new elements of gameplay such as Feral Dots. Now, we’re excited to share some upcoming changes that will continue to bring more delight to our global player community.

Changes to how Blight works

Coming soon, we will be making some changes to Blight so Keepers can better understand the impact they’re having on their map when rescuing Feral Dots.

Blight is a mysterious and ever-changing foe, but it is not impossible to defeat. Soon, instead of organically respawning over the course of a few hours, Blight will no longer respawn outside of Blight-specific events. With this change we’re instead going to be introducing a new event “Feral Dot Fridays”, where a portion of the unblighted world will be refreshed each Friday. Additionally, Blight Outbreaks will also be restructured to adapt to these changes; particularly, a larger portion of the world will be refreshed on each of the three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) of a Blight Outbreak weekend. During these events, once an area of Blight has been cleared, it may not respawn until the next potential event day (either being the next day of a Blight Outbreak Weekend or the next Feral Dot Friday).

To offset some of these changes to how Blight works, we’ll be increasing the rewards you will receive from individual Dots that you rescue – for more details on those rewards, see the updates to game tuning below.

Why are we making these changes?
The truth is, the way Blight was originally introduced didn’t meet many of our expectations. In practice, too much of the map remains Blighted at any given time, making the world feel daunting and like players are fighting a never-ending ocean of “doom and gloom”. The changes above better align with our original intention for this feature and should enable players to actually feel like they’re making a contribution to the game in a way that is not overly grindy.

Additional game tuning changes

In addition to these changes on how Blight works, read on for improvements to earning resources like Nests, Blightbux, Peridough, Sundrops and more!

More opportunities to earn Nests:

  • Nests will be available on additional days of the Daily Login reward. Previously a Nest could be earned during the 30th day of login. With these changes, we’ll also introduce them as rewards on day 7, day 14, and day 21.
  • Nests will be added as a permanent offer to the Daily Deals section for Blightbux. This offer will rotate in the store twice a week, and each offer will have a purchase limit of 3 at 4,000 Blightbux per Nest.
  • Nests will be added as a permanent offer to the Daily Deals section for Peridough. This offer will rotate in the store twice a week, and each offer will have a purchase limit of 3 at 500 Peridough per Nest.
  • Nests will be added as a super-rare forage when in range of a Habitat. This will add some surprise and delight to your everyday foraging activities with your Dots.

More opportunities to earn Blightbux:

  • In addition to the Blight respawn changes, we’ll be increasing the rewards earned for each Dazzle to offset the amount of Feral Dots Keepers will engage with on a weekly basis. The amount of increased Blightbux will be about 5 times the amount currently awarded.
  • During Blight Outbreak events, the amount of Blightbux per successful rescue will also scale up.

More opportunities to earn Peridough:

  • Peridough will be added as a rare forage when in range of a Habitat.
  • Peridough will be added as a permanent offer to the Daily Deals section for Blightbux. This offer will rotate in the store once a week, and each offer will have a purchase limit of 3 at 5,000 Blightbux for 500 Peridough.
  • Peridough rewards will be even greater from weekly or special event-related quests. More events, like Blight Outbreak Weekend and 2x Weekend, will also have Peridough quests.
  • Peridough will have a rare chance of being discovered when your Dots return from their Travels.

More opportunities to earn Sundrops:

  • Sundrop rewards will be even greater from daily, weekly, and special event-related quests.
  • Sundrops earned from Daily Gifts will be increased from 400 to 600 per gift. This may increase even further during various special events.
  • Sundrops earned from foraging at Habitats will be increased from 400 to 1,000.
  • Sundrops will now be rewarded when completing an individual Socialization type on each of your Dots. 5,000 Sundrops will be rewarded for each completed Socialization type, meaning you can earn up to 65,000 Sundrops per Dot!

Some additional tuning changes:

  • The Habitat special item forage cooldown will be reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours.
  • When a Feral Dot is rescued, it may still show up for other Keepers for up to 10 minutes rather than immediately being removed for other Keepers.
  • Visitor Dots and Habitats will now showcase 3 Wild Dots at a time and they will refresh every hour.

Phew, that’s a lot of updates and changes! We strongly value our supportive community and are excited to enable even more fun with our Keepers and the whimsical world of Peridots. Thank you for all of the feedback, and we look forward to pushing out these updates in early March!
